Splean: recent albums

The Splean collective has existed on the post-Soviet rock scene for about three decades. But to this day he is actively involved in creating, and their compositions with a competitive force for young performers successfully fly into radio charts and become hits of the new time.

The last full-length studio work of Splean was the album "Vera and Maina", which was released at the end of 2020. All 11 compositions were written over this year and highlight the problems of such a rebellious and unpredictable period. In the literal sense, the title of this album is interpreted as ups and downs. All this is veiled by the professionalism of riggers, where vira means up, and lane means down. The songs themselves are characterized by the topicality of the new time, tragicomic philosophy and, as always, outstanding and beautiful lyrics.

This work was preceded by the jubilee fifteenth album, which was released in May 2018 under the title “Vstrechnaya polosa” (Counter Lane). It should be noted that out of 11 compositions, 8 of them were recorded before the release of the previous album “Khuch k shifru” (Key to the Cipher). But none of these works was presented to the general public. And the first sign of the upcoming album was the composition "The Warmth of a Native Home", which premiered in December 2017.

Also, for a deeper acquaintance with the work of Alexander Vasiliev, you should listen to his 2004 solo album “Chernoviki” (Drafts). It includes compositions that were not used by the Splean group. In addition to the famous song "Romance", which was released in a solo album, and in the studio work of the group “Reversivnaya chereda sobutiy” (Reverse Chronicle of Events).

Orbit bez sahara (Orbit without sugar) is a composition, the chorus of which is known to everyone who was born in the 80-90s. Our radio has proudly placed the song in the hundred of the best domestic hits of the last century. And the Spleans themselves promised to perform "Orbit Without Sugar" until the end of their days. It describes the life of the girl Alexander Vasiliev, and Rodriguez, who is mentioned in the song, is not a fictional character, but the cat of that very girlfriend.

Vihoda net (There is no way out) — it tells about the period of growing up when youthful maximalism is replaced by the routine and inevitability of adulthood. Some critics see references to drug addiction in the composition. But Alexander Vasiliev himself claims that this song is a story for his beloved that together they are not afraid of anything, and for real happiness you just need to leave here.

Moe serdce (My Heart) is a famous hit about the love story of two people who met on an aeroplane. This is not a fictional case at all, but the real story of the acquaintance of Alexander Vasiliev and his wife. The song does not use pretentious metaphors or phrases, but on the contrary, is written in simple and understandable words. Like love itself when it's real.

Fellini is the song in honour of which one of the group's largest concert tours was organized. Initially, the composition was performed only by Spleans, and only then did the idea arise to record a collaboration with Bi-2. The composition became so popular and beloved by many fans that at one of the concerts it was performed as an encore six times in a row.

Tell this to Harry Potter - the newest song of the above hits, but has already gained popularity. The release of the composition with political overtones took place at a very successful time for her - during the first lockdown in April 2020. With the release of this song, many of the band's fans heralded Splean's return to music. And some stars even wrote their own response to this composition. In any case, she did not leave many people indifferent.
