Lakota Nation vs. United States || in Kyiv 13 may 2024
USA / 2022 / 118'
Directors: Jesse Short Bull, Laura Tomaselli
After the recent success of Martin Scorsese's The Killers, the subject of colonialism and the expulsion of indigenous communities from American lands has gained new relevance.
The American Film Festival program included a documentary that continues this debate: The Lakota Nation vs. the United States follows the Lakota's many attempts to reclaim the Black Hills, a sacred land that was stolen from them in violation of treaties.
The film is distinguished not only by excellent cinematography, but also by sharp social self-criticism, possible only in the conditions of a free society capable of rethinking its past.
